The experience of eating a skewered piece of meat is very human and primal. Meat! On a stick! This meat-on-a-stick recipe features beef marinated in garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sriracha, and honey. Enjoy!
Note: this recipe requires a marinating time of at least 30 minutes, and if you are using wooden skewers, at least 30 minutes to soak the skewers in water.
Ingredients
- 1 pound beef sirloin, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into 1-inch chunks
- 1 red onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 8 cloves minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons fresh-grated ginger
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons sriracha
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- Fresh-cracked black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
Process
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, honey, sriracha, sesame oil, salt, and pepper.
- Place the cubed beef into a zip-top plastic bag or a container and pour half of the marinade from step 1 over the beef. Reserve the remaining marinade to use as a sauce later. Do not use marinade that has had raw meat in it as a sauce.
Let the beef marinate for at least 30 minutes, but the flavor will be better the longer it sits, up to about 24 hours.
Once the beef is marinated… - Preheat your grill to medium-high. Let it get nice and hot, at least 500 degrees on the surface.
- Thread the beef, pepper, and onions onto metal or wooden skewers in a nice pattern while the grill gets hot.
- Place the skewers on the grill and let them sizzle. It will likely take 10-12 minutes to cook the skewers. The internal temperature of the beef should be 135 degrees or so.
- Remove the skewers from the heat and let them rest for about 5 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy! A nice fresh salad, some rice, or vegetables would be a delightful accompaniment to this meal.
