Homemade Pizza Dough

Pizza is definitely my favorite food. A tasty crust, a nice sweet sauce, melty cheese, and savory seasonings…it makes me salivate like one of Pavlov’s dogs just thinking about it. This pizza dough recipe is a family favorite — bake and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar or honey
  • 1/4 cup body temperature water — your finger should feel neither hot nor cold in the water
  • 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose or bread flour
  • 2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup and 1 tablespoon of room-temperature water

Process

  1. Mix the yeast, sugar, and 1/4 cup water together in a small bowl. Let it stand for about 10 minutes, until the mix is foamy and smells bready.
  2. Add the flour and kosher salt to the bowl of the stand mixer and mix for 15 seconds with the dough hook.
If you do not have a stand mixer, mix together with a wooden spoon in a large bowl.
  3. Add the olive oil, remaining water, and yeast mix to the flour. Mix with the stand mixer on low for about 2 minutes, then turn the speed to medium and mix for 5 whole minutes. Then, roll the dough into a ball.
If you do not have a stand mixer, knead the dough aggressively with your hands for five minutes and then roll into a ball.
  4. Grease a large bowl with cooking spray and place the dough ball into the bowl. Cover loosely with plastic wrap. Let rise for one hour.
  5. Once the dough has risen: punch down the dough, then divide into two portions with a chefs knife or a dough scraper.
  6. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  7. Turn the dough out onto pizza trays dusted with cornmeal.
  8. Top the dough with your favorite sauce (we like Mid’s Pizza Sauce — not a paid endorsement, we actually just really like the sauce), a layer of cheese, and your choice of toppings.
  9. Bake for approximately 10 minutes.
  10. Enjoy!
