Pizza is definitely my favorite food. A tasty crust, a nice sweet sauce, melty cheese, and savory seasonings…it makes me salivate like one of Pavlov’s dogs just thinking about it. This pizza dough recipe is a family favorite — bake and enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp. sugar or honey
- 1/4 cup body temperature water — your finger should feel neither hot nor cold in the water
- 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose or bread flour
- 2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 cup and 1 tablespoon of room-temperature water
Process
- Mix the yeast, sugar, and 1/4 cup water together in a small bowl. Let it stand for about 10 minutes, until the mix is foamy and smells bready.
- Add the flour and kosher salt to the bowl of the stand mixer and mix for 15 seconds with the dough hook.
If you do not have a stand mixer, mix together with a wooden spoon in a large bowl. - Add the olive oil, remaining water, and yeast mix to the flour. Mix with the stand mixer on low for about 2 minutes, then turn the speed to medium and mix for 5 whole minutes. Then, roll the dough into a ball.
If you do not have a stand mixer, knead the dough aggressively with your hands for five minutes and then roll into a ball. - Grease a large bowl with cooking spray and place the dough ball into the bowl. Cover loosely with plastic wrap. Let rise for one hour.
- Once the dough has risen: punch down the dough, then divide into two portions with a chefs knife or a dough scraper.
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
- Turn the dough out onto pizza trays dusted with cornmeal.
- Top the dough with your favorite sauce (we like Mid’s Pizza Sauce — not a paid endorsement, we actually just really like the sauce), a layer of cheese, and your choice of toppings.
- Bake for approximately 10 minutes.
- Enjoy!
