Fried rice is a wonderful meal or side dish. This basic fried rice recipe is easy to spice up: add some sriracha, sweet chili sauce, or hoisin sauce to buff up the flavor. You can also add your favorite protein, such as chicken or pork!
Ingredients
- 3 cups cooked rice — you can use Jasmine, white, or brown rice.
- 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1/4 chopped onion
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1 cup peas and carrots (or whatever vegetables you like)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp. sesame oil
- 3 tbsp. soy sauce
- Green onions for garnish
Process
- In a skillet or a wok, heat up the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring frequently, for about three minutes.
- Add the peas and carrots. Cook for about two minutes.
- Turn the heat on the wok up to medium-high and add the rice. Cook for about three minutes, stirring frequently.
- Reduce the heat and push the rice to the edge of the pan, making a little hole for the egg. Crack the egg into the center of the pan and scramble it, then stir it into the pot.
- Add the soy sauce and sesame oil to the rice, then stir until evenly coated.
- Garnish with the green onions and serve!
